WANT TO BE A FIREFIGHTER WITH US?
WHAT DOES IT TAKES TO BE A FIREFIGHTER?
As a firefighter, you will be on call 24 hours a day, responding to emergencies in all weather conditions, at any time of day or night. You’ll be called to handle a variety of situations, including structure fires, wildland fires, motor vehicle accidents, medical emergencies, and public fire safety events.
Fire scenes can be chaotic, with many tasks that need to be done simultaneously. If you're trained for interior firefighting, you may be part of the initial attack team or support operations from the exterior. Other responsibilities at a scene include stretching hose lines, managing traffic, setting up scene lighting, running the rehabilitation center to care for exhausted firefighters, and assisting Emergency Health Services (EHS) in providing medical care to victims.
These situations can be high-stress and emotionally challenging, but the personal rewards of being part of this team are immeasurable.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO BECOME A FIREFIGHTER WITH CHESTER BASIN?
To become a volunteer firefighter, the first step is to submit an application to the department. You can easily get an application by clicking the button above. Once your application is received and reviewed, you may be called for an interview.
If accepted, you will serve a six-month probation period. During this time, you'll need to participate in training sessions, respond to emergency calls, and attend monthly meetings. After completing probation, the membership committee will review your performance and present your application to the full membership at a regular meeting for a vote.
If you're accepted, that's when the real excitement begins!

WHAT TRAINING WILL YOU NEED?
Once your application is accepted and you become a full member, you will be required to complete Standard First Aid & CPR at a minimum. If you’re interested in interior firefighting, you'll have the opportunity to take Firefighter Level 1 training, which includes 180 hours of theory and practical classroom sessions.
Members can also pursue Emergency Health Services (EHS) Medical First Responder training. In addition, there are numerous further training opportunities, such as leadership development, safety officer certification, pump operator training, and vehicle extrication technician courses, to name a few.

IF YOU DON'T WANT TO GO INSIDE A BURNING BUILDING, IS THERE STILL A PLACE FOR YOU?
We also need support members to keep the department running smoothly. These people also respond to emergency call and their task may include truck drivers, pump operators, medical first responders, exterior firefighters, and those responsible for traffic or crowd control.
Additionally, we need associate members to assist with administrative tasks, dispatch, and fundraising efforts.
Our motto is "challenge by choice." You'll take on the role you feel most confident in, and we will provide the necessary training and mentorship to prepare you for the job.
